CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA
August 10, 1938 - January 06, 2021
Kay M. Hubbard (nee McLey), age 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 6, 2021. She was the loving mother of Paul E. (Danni) and Elizabeth (Jeff) Browning; beloved grandmother of Evan (Lauren), Rachel (Katie), Andrew (fiancé April), Patrick, Sam and Ben; and dear friend of many.
Kay was a “Woman of Words” whose passion for reading, writing and playing with words permeated many layers of her life. She was a master Crossword Puzzler, high school English teacher and volunteered to teach second-grade reading. While volunteering, she would often gift each child with their own book so their love of reading could continue at home.
Bridge was another talent and Kay was often welcomed and invited to join Bridge groups. She loved playing and the friendships that emerged. Some of these friendships have continued for decades and she cherished them.
She instilled music into her family from the time her kids were young – through guitar playing and family sing-alongs. That talent has continued in her children’s and grandchildren’s singing, playing instruments, listening and composing. Other hobbies included assembling jigsaw puzzles, reading, watching football and basketball, fishing, gardening and hanging with her feline companions, Casey and Pepper.
Finally, she loved to feed those she loved. Happily, she would pour over recipes, planning, shopping, preparing and serving food to people who mattered to her. It was the ultimate sign of hospitality and devotion. She knew that shared meals nurtured bodies and hearts.
She will be missed but her memory will evoke smiles and joy-filled moments shared with her.
The Hubbard Family has entrusted arrangements to Boston's-Roseboro's Mortuary.
