Jeffery Eugene Houston 63, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020.

Jeffery Eugene Houston was born in Mooresville, N.C on June 4, 1956.  He was the eldest child of his parents Thomas Eugene Houston Jr. and Iretha Long Houston.  Jeffery was raised in a loving Christian home with his mother and grandparents, the late Thomas Eugene & Lorraine Houston (members of The House of Prayer).  On March 21, 2020, he departed his life at his home in St. Albans, West Virginia.

Jeffery was raised in Huntersville, N.C. and graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1974.  While attending North Mecklenburg Jeff was recognized for being a highly competitive athlete and was lettered in football and basketball.  In 1972, Jeff lead his J.V. Basketball Team to the State Championship and was named, “Most Valuable Player (MVP)”.  In Jeff’s senior year, he was nominated and participated in, “First Team All New York City (Summer League)” and titled MVP.  This accomplishment resulted in his name being placed on the New York City Wall Plaque.  Prior to injury, he was recruited by Syracuse University, St John’s University, and Winston Salem State University.

After high school, Jeff attended DeVry Institute and graduated in Electrical Engineering.

Jeffery married Robin Eartha Tyson in June, 1976 and there were 3 children from this union: Toya Natoshia Houston, Teal Naya Houston and Jeffrey Eugene Houston Jr. (deceased).  One of his favorite songs that made him think of his daughters was, “I Hope You Dance”.  In 1990 Jeffery joined  Little Rock AME Zion Church of Charlotte, N.C. where he became an active member.  He was a member of the Men’s Gospel Choir and served on the Usher Board.  Within Jeff’s Christianity, he never met a stranger without care and concern.   He loved long conversations and the camaraderie of people. Jeff had many hobbies.  He was a member of the North American Hunting Club. His love for the outdoors lead to many fishing trips and outdoor hunting. He was a fan of various genres of music from all eras and was a bar-b-que grilling master. 

Jeffery attended Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC.  He graduated with a certification in Industrial Electricity Part I- Part V 1993 -1998.  He was employed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #397 in Charlotte N.C., which classified him with the highest professional level known to this field, “Journeyman”.  This rank allowed Jeffery to service the overall Eastern Seaboard.

Jeffery leaves to cherish his precious memories; His loving mother Iretha Long Houston of Huntersville, N.C., his father Eugene Houston (Brenda) of Charlotte, N.C.  Two daughters: Toya Houston & Teal Houston of Charlotte and one granddaughter: Reign Victoria Houston.  Six siblings:  Grayling Houston of Asheville, N.C., Rosalind Smothers (Robert) of Huntersville, N.C., Anthony Houston (Deborah) of Harrisburg, N.C. and Chavis Houston (Wanda), Travon Houston (Jackie) and Daymond Houston (Janice) all of Charlotte, NC. Two Aunts: June Springs & Grace Houston, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

A service to Celebrate the life of Mr. Houston will be held on Friday, March 27, 2020 at Little Rock AME Zion Church, 401 N McDowell St. Charlotte, NC 28204. The visitation will begin at 12:00PM and Funeral Service will begin at 1:00PM.
