Obituary

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

September 14, 1924 - March 23, 2020.

Elsie Estelle Johnson Rollins, 95, passed away Monday, March 23, 2020.

Elsie Estelle Rollins, 95 passed away on March 23, 2020 at White Oak Manor in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Elsie Estelle Johnson was born in Virginia on the 14th day September 1924. Elsie relocated to New York City as a young lady to work. Elsie found employment, love and many friends in Queens, New York. Elsie joined and attended Allen AME Cathedral for many years. Elsie was fun-loving, feisty, caring, considerate, giving and trustworthy. Elsie lived life to its fullest by attending church services, bible study, working several jobs, traveling and shopping with friends and family. Elsie did not have any biological children, so she became a second mother to her cousin Margaret’s two daughters, Teresa (New York City) and Gloria (Charlotte, North Carolina). Elsie enjoyed telling jokes, listening to music/talk radio, dancing, watching tv game shows, going to the theater, traveling to Atlantic City for fun event/shows and taking cruises with friends. Elsie was known as the Lemon Meringue Pie queen because as the kids would say: “she could really put her foot in a pie.” Elsie took pleasure in helping to bring laughter and joy to people. When Elsie was no longer able to reside alone, she agreed to move to Charlotte to live with her cousin Margaret. Elsie joined Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Harrisburg, North Carolina where she was an active member. Elsie soon needed more assistance and decided to move to White Oak Manor Nursing Home.

Elsie leaves to mourn two first cousins who grew up as sisters; Margaret (Charlotte, North Carolina) and Elizabeth (Virginia) and a host of cousins and friends residing in Charlotte, New York, New Jersey and Virginia.

Elsie was preceded in death by her mother Annie Johnson and husband James Rollins.
