Obituary

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

May 29, 1943 - July 26, 2020

Carol Lee Davis, age 77, of Charlotte, NC passed away on July 26, 2020 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by family.

Carol was born May 29, 1943 in Rahway, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Samuel and Nell Connor.  She was the youngest of three siblings.  On March 2,1964, Carol and Charles William Davis, high school sweethearts, were married and embraced a 44-year blissful journey raising children, dancing and enjoying a love of music while sharing strength of will and running a business.  Carol and Charlie were known to clear a dancefloor with the power of their steps and love in their eyes. Everyone watched the magic of their dance, be it ballroom dancing or slow dancing to a Beatles song in their living room, it was a true thing of beauty.

A loving mother of three children, Carol spent years running several family businesses. With her high school diploma, Carol learned all facets of business operations and ensured her family’s business success.  She completed her career in the business world as an office manager for International Recovery Services located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  The staff lovingly referred to her as the ‘Mother Hen’ and she certainly ruled the roost.  Carol also had a knack for getting a deal - a very frugal woman who always checked the grocery receipt and always knew how to find a discount.

Her life in south Florida included years living on a houseboat with her husband.  The houseboat aptly named ‘Talisman of Mendham, NJ’ was docked in a marina where the boating community became her family and friends providing some of her most memorable years.  She always reflected on her happiness during these years with her husband enjoying boating trips through the “Venice of America” stopping along the way to see friends at various restaurants along the water.  Watching the ocean waves, helping release baby sea turtles into the waters, and walking along the beach were among her favorite memories.

Carol was a woman full of love and wisdom.  Her neighbors referred to her as the real deal and a woman with style.  She positively impacted everyone she met. She had a great compassion for nature and all creatures big and small. She especially loved the dogs that were part of her family over the decades. In her recent years, she moved to Charlotte from Fort Lauderdale enjoying a simpler life in retirement.   She enjoyed feeding the resident birds, squirrels, rabbits and chipmunks and mentoring some of the neighborhood children.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Vivian Davis Coleman and son-in-law, David Edward Coleman; Tracy Ann Lebeau and son-in-law, Arthur Willam Lebeau; sister, Virginia Yawarski; niece, Gaye Mihovich and nephew, Paul Yawarski.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her son, Mark Davis and her brother, Samuel Connor.

Carol will be missed by the many people she so positively affected.  As best said by the Beatles - “All you need is love.”  And for Carol, her family knows that “And, in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.” – Paul McCartney
