Willie J. Tate, 76, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018.
Willie James Tate was born on August 9, 1941, to the union of Henry Douglas and Beatrice Tate in Charlotte, North Carolina. Willie received his formal education at York Road High School in Charlotte, North Carolina. On February 5, 1972, Willie was united in holy matrimony with Marizetta Tate in York, South Carolina. Their union was blessed with 8 children. Willie was a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, and although he did not attend as often as he would have liked to, he was a faithful tither.
Willie was the ultimate entrepreneur and owned many different businesses throughout his life. These businesses included a restaurant, a clothing store, and a club “Peacock Lounge.” His character was defined by his determination, his strength, and his loyalty. He took pride in his children and in teaching them how to become men. In his leisure, Willie enjoyed playing cards, telling jokes, and listening to the blues. Some of his favorite blues artist were Fats Domino and BB King.
Willie departed this life on Monday, April 16, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marizetta Tate.
Willie is survived by his children, Andres, Thomas, Marvin, Michael, Darryl, Warren, Robert, and Lincoln; a brother, Henry Douglas; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, other family and friends.
A public viewing for Mr. Tate will take place on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, from 3:00PM - 6:00PM.
A graveside service for Mr. Tate will be held at 2:00PM, Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Oaklawn Cemetery, 1612 Oaklawn Ave,Charlotte, North Carolina 28216. Interment will follow.
The Tate Family have entrusted arrangements to Boston's Mortuary.
