Simon Broom, Jr. 70, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019.

Simon Broom, Jr was born on June 13, 1949, to the Union of Carrie Howard Broom and Simon Broom, Sr. in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Simon received his formal education at C.M. Washington High School, Thibodaux, Louisiana. 

He furthered his education at Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC and received a B.A. Degree in Music Education and an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering at Central Piedmont Community College.

At a very early age Simon accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

Simon served in the United States Armed Forces from 1971 to 1974 as a Specialist 4 Intelligence Analysis.

Simon began his Music Ministry in West Berlin, Germany as Music Director for the Berlin Brigade Interfaith Choir. The highlight of his Tour of Duty was singing and directing the BBI Choir at the Berlin Cathedral and ministering throughout Europe   with his wife Emma by his side.

Simon also served in the capacity of Minister of Music and Song Leader at Victory Christian Center for 19 years. He continued to minister at Church in the City until his transition.

Simon loved God, his family, people and playing his trombone.  He was a Master Trombonist and loved ministering to church family and friends.  

Simon was Co-Owner, Process Manager, Graphic and Website Designer for Service First Education and Training Company for over 30 years. Prior to his entrepreneurship, he was an Engineer for WTVI Television in Charlotte, NC, Radio Engineer for the City of Charlotte and Communications’ Supervisor for Duke Energy. 

Simon transitioned to Heaven on August 14, 2019.  He was preceded in death by his father, Simon Broom, Sr. and mother, Carrie Howard Broom.

He leaves to cherish and honor his memory, his loving wife of 48 years, Emma P. Broom; Son, Simon Aaron Broom; daughter, Chanda Marie Broom.  Stepmother, Ivory Broom, New Orleans, LA.;Six Brothers, Edward Webb (Vanessa),La Place, LA., Michael Webb (Angela), New Orleans, Daryl Webb (Tonia) Surprise, Arizona, Carl Broom and Troy Broom, New Orleans, Byron Broom(Ann), Vacaville, CA; Six Sisters, Dr. Deborah Broom Cooley (Henry), Atlanta, Ga.Valeria Broom Hamilton (Stanley), Ozark, Alabama, Karen Broom, Vacaville, CA, Lynette Broom and Sarah M. Broom, Harlem, New York; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and many close friends.

A public viewing for Mr. Broom will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2019, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, at Boston's Mortuary 4300 Statesville Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28269. 

Funeral services will be held at Victory Christian Center, 7228 Kings Ridge Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28217, on Friday, August 23, 2019.  Family visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and the funeral service will begin at 12:00 PM.  Interment will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens 1504 W Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28262.  

The Broom Family have entrusted arrangements to Boston's Mortuary.
