CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

February 23, 1950~January 7, 2019

Peter L. Clarke, 68, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019.

Peter L. Clarke (Esso) born February 23rd, 1950 on the Island of Trinidad W.I.  Peter was the son of Lucios Clarke and Una Clarke. Peter was the third of eight siblings.

As a Boy, Peter attended Bourg Mulatresse RC School. He Then later attended John Donaldson Technical Institute in Port of Spain, where he studied culinary arts. After school Peter worked many different jobs in Trinidad until he had the opportunity to own his own business. Peter ran his own business, a Bar called West Indian Boys recreation club in Bourg Mulatress, Trinidad where he was well known and loved by his patrons and friends. Peter never had an issue helping Family Friends or sometimes people of Bourg Mulatresse when he could with Donations or Money. Peter ran his Bar until 1987. Peter was a loving and supportive brother that put family first. Before Peter settled down with his own family he spent time making sure his Mother, younger siblings, nieces and nephews were all cared for. He even kept up with their care while dealing with his own Family.

As business slowed and Trinidad was going through a recession Peter moved to the United States in the spring of 1987. He left everything behind in Trinidad and came to Brooklyn, NY to meet up with his Love Ursula who was there a few months before also helping to support their family. Peter arrived in Brooklyn with just the clothes on his back ready and willing to work hard. Peter like many other West Indians was an undocumented Alien at that time, but he never let that stop him from meeting his goals. Peter never had too much pride to refuse a job as long as he made enough to pay him and his family’s way. Peter decided he was not moving back to Trinidad and he was going to make a Life here n the US with his family so he moved to New Jersey with his wife and son Cohen. Peter then rolled up his sleeves, worked hard, paid his taxes and bills and at the first opportunity he had he became a Permanent resident of the United States. Peter worked many Different jobs over the years in NY & NJ but eventually found his calling as a Certified Health Care worker in The State of New Jersey. A Few years later Peter and Ursula became proud homeowners in East Orange, NJ. In 2000 Peter married his long time love Ursula in an official ceremony at the St Joseph RC Church in East Orange, NJ with a wonderful Reception in their backyard with all Family and friends in attendance.

At Work Peter’s exemplary work and great attitude was evident to his Supervisors so they would always select him for Special cases. Peter was once selected to care for Actor, Dudley Moore in his final days until his passing, Singer Luther Vandross in his final days, and Former Westfield, NJ Mayor Emerson Thomas until his passing just to name a few.

Peter had a busy work schedule but he always tried to make time for family, his wife Ursula, Holiday gatherings, Ursula’s MANY Projects, and any type of normal family drama you can think of that he would help solve. During the holidays Peter took great joy in preparing meals and telling jokes for his family and Friends. Some meals were traditional and some he invented through his many experiments. In Trinidad Peter loved wild meat, ( manicou, iguana, deer, porcupine, land turtle, taters, cosci, crabs, conch to name a few and poor Ursula would always end up the one cooking it while shaking her head., But out of love she did it anyway. He always wanted be sure everyone ate, drink and be Happy at the end of the day. Peter was able to make a trip back to his homeland in 2017 for his oldest brothers passing. He was very happy to see his Family again considering the circumstances, but in the end Peter’s number 1 goal was make sure Ursula was happy and she knew that he loved her unconditionally. Peter had a long battle with Cancer but he fought the good fight. Peter was making jokes even during his last week with us.
