Martha Turner

January 1, 1937 ~ November 25, 2019 (age 82)

Obituary

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA.

January 1, 1937 - November 25, 2019.

Martha Turner, 82, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2019.

Martha Anne Turner, 82 of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her children on Monday, November 25, 2019. She was the first child born New Year’s Day, 1937, in Charlotte, NC to the late Vera Viola (Parker) and Royal James Watkins.

Martha took on many roles in her life, but her most important title was Mother. Nothing mattered more to her than the welfare and happiness of her family. The love she carried for her children and grandchildren became the glue that held everyone together year after year. She was the cornerstone of her family, the reason everyone gathered was to gather around her. Her family knows that it was because of her, that every holiday, every birthday, every Sunday breakfast was full of laughter and genuine love. Those who knew her well recognized how difficult this life has been for her and commend her greatly for the perseverance she displayed throughout the toughest times, times she often faced alone. Had she not given every bit of herself to her children, her family would not be what it is today. Martha Anne was a strong spirit, a strong woman. She was a loving mother. She was a great friend to many who knew her. She will be missed every day, forever.

She is survived by her beloved sister, Sarah Atkinson of Raeford, NC, two sons, John Turner (wife Donna) of Charlotte, NC, Mark Turner (wife Joy) of Heath Springs, SC, and two daughters, Donna Niang of Charlotte, NC, Robin Connell (partner Jeff Ellis) of Clover, SC; as well as her grandchildren, Rhiannon, Michael, Frankie, Donovan, Patrick, Megan, David, Steven, Adam, Bethany, Kaitlyn, Kevin, Chris, Mark, Mat; and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as a large extended family.

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her sister Louis, brothers Stephen, David and Roy “Sam"(wife Harriet) of Albemarle, NC, and her two nephews Roy and David.
