Leroy P. Graham

August 26, 1940 ~ October 10, 2019 (age 79)

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

August 26, 1940 - October 10, 2019

Leroy Graham 79, passed away on October 10, 2019.

Leroy Pate Graham, son of the late J.P. Pate and the late Nora Lee Graham-Lewis, was born August 26, 1940 in Hartsville, SC.  On Thursday morning, October 10, 2019, at his home in Charlotte, NC, Leroy was called home to be with the Lord.

Leroy attended school in Hartsville, South Carolina.  As a young man, he later moved to Far Rockaway, New York, where he met the love of his life, Janie Mae Graham.  They were united in holy matrimony on July 17, 1962 at their home church of Smith Temple, in St. Albans, New York by their pastor, the late Elder John H. Smith.

Leroy spent his professional career with Rockaway Metal, in Far Rockaway, NY, until he retired in 1989 and relocated with his family to Charlotte, NC.  Leroy was a rather quiet person who won a place in the hearts of those who knew him, with his playful and good nature.  Everyone who met him, witnessed his passion for helping others.  The word “no” was not in his vocabulary if someone was in need.  Because of his unique ability to fix just about anything, Leroy could often be found with his head under the hood of a neighbor’s vehicle or with his hands repairing just about anything with an engine.

Leroy took pride in looking out for others.  Most days he could be found sitting on the porch, watching the neighborhood, smiling and greeting everyone as they passed.  He was jokingly referred to by many of his neighbors as “The Watchman of the block”.  Leroy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Fond and loving memories will be cherished by his beloved wife of 57 years, Janie Mae Graham; five children reared as his own, Curtis Lemon, Felecia Mushatt (Michael) of Charlotte, NC, Carolyn Ragin of Manning, SC, Stacey Shaheed (Alim) of Matthews, NC, and Stukes Lemon, III (Tasha) of Tega Cay SC;  two sisters, Veronica Owens and Shirley Davis (Walter) of Queens, NY; 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

A public viewing for Mr. Graham will be held from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, on Monday, October 14, 2019, at Boston's Mortuary 4300 Statesville Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28269.

A service to Celebrate the Life of Mr. Graham will be held at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at Boston's Mortuary.  There will be a private interment for Mr. Graham.
