CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

MARCH 14, 1932 - May 5, 2018

Juanita Hoover, 86, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018.

Saint Juanita Hoover was born to the late Johnson Hoover and Alloina Brown, on March 14, 1932, in Charlotte, North Carolina. She departed this life on May 5, 2018, at Huntersville Oaks Rehabilitation Center. Saint Hoover was born and raised in the United House of Prayer for All People. Juanita was a Maid for Sweet Daddy Grace. She graduated from Second Ward High School in 1950. After graduating she began traveling with Daddy Grace in the early 1950s and became one of the “Sweet Singers,” and they traveled to Hollywood, California, to record a record for Daddy Grace. Later, she married the late Robert Lee Hoover (Bill Falls), and became a Domestic Engineer, as nine children were born from this union. She received the Holy Ghost in 1963. Juanita later became the first Pastor’s Wife of Derita Mission, under the Pastorialship of her late husband, Elder Robert Lee Hoover, and under the leadership of Sweet Daddy McCollough. As time passed Juanita and her husband became members of the Charlotte Mother House when it was on McDowell Street. Juanita was a member of the McCollough Heavenly Bells, the United Singers, and the Senior Choir. She labored in the House of Prayer, worked hard in the cafeteria and rallied as a Senior Choir member, until her health began to fail. The Senior Choir and Jubilee Choir later combined and St. Hoover then became a member of the Bailey Jubilee Choir. Even when she became ill, it was not a surprise to look up during Convocation season and see Juanita and Billy Boy.

A few of her most memorable trips were Memorial Weekend and going to see the Christmas lights on Saint Thompson’s bus, under the leadership of Sweet Daddy Madison and now Sweet Daddy Bailey. There was never a question of St. Hoover’s loyalty to the United House of Prayer, as she was blessed to serve under all four Bishops. What a Blessing! Later her small body became frail, and when she could no longer walk, traveling become more difficult, because she was so independent. When she was hospitalized, she had prayer with her children and said to them, “I want yall to get along, because I am on my way to heaven, and I’m not going to let anybody stop me!” The nurses would tell the family that Juanita would call on Jesus, and Lord, and Daddy, and that she would cry and tell the Lord she was tired, and one bright Saturday morning, at 9:42am, Juanita quietly slipped away, and is now resting peacefully.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elder Robert Lee Hoover; two brothers Johnny Hoover and Floyd Hoover; one sister Elizabeth Hoover; two sons Tommy Hoover and James Hoover; one step-daughter Nancy Hoover Hamilton; two nephews Gerald Hoover and Michael Hoover; two special cousins Norvus Miller, Sr. and Norvus Miller, Jr. (Shawn); two special friends Saint Juanita Davis and Saint Louise Wilkerson.
