CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA
November 8, 1950 - August 30, 2019
John Leslie Morgan, Jr., 68, passed from this life to his eternal home in Heaven on August 30, 2019. He had briefly been a patient at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate in Charlotte, NC, after a lengthy stay at Atrium Health Cabarrus (formerly Northeast Medical Center) in Concord NC.
He was born in Tampa, FL, on November 8, 1950, but lived most of his life here in Charlotte. He graduated from Independence High School in 1969. He is a Vietnam War Veteran, having proudly served in the US Army as a Combat Medic. He had several successful careers after leaving the military: bicycle shop owner/bicycle repairman; 2-cycle lawn equipment repairman; and flea market vendor for Dudley’s Tools and Equipment. He was an extremely hard worker but was never too busy to stop what he was doing to talk with or help someone. He never met a stranger! He had a real heart and compassion for the local Latino community and was virtually self-taught in Spanish. However, he genuinely cared deeply for all people. He was also bold and passionate about sharing his Christian faith and what our Lord Jesus Christ had done for him and meant to him.
He is the first child and only son of Gail Leslie Morgan, father, and Gwendolyn Gayle (Williams) Morgan, mother, who predeceased him. His presence, personality, humor, his ways and his example will be sorely missed by his wife of 18 years, Cynthia L. (Overman) Morgan; children & stepson John L. (Wai) Morgan, III, Xan C. Overman (Chelsea Kelley) and Jenine M. (Mitch) Garner; grandson Nathaniel Kane Garner; sisters Lynda Henderson (Rick Calebro) and Gwendolyn (Shane) Seymour, as well as a host of nieces & nephews, many business associates, neighbors and dear friends.
There will be a Committal Service in his honor at the V.A. National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC, on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 11:00am.
A Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30pm, also on Friday, October 18, 2019 at Central Church in Charlotte, NC.
