CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA
August 13, 1925 ~ June 8, 2019
Ida Olah, 93, left this life at 3:55 am on June 8, 2019 at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Aldersgate. At her side was her dear friend, Dr. David Mabry, who held her hand during her final hours on earth.
Ida is survived by her daughter, Nancy Olah, her son-in-law, Bill Pace, and her grandson, Nicholas Olah Pace, who is named after Ida's dear father, Nick Menage. Ida is preceded in death by her husband, Emil Olah (1974), her sister, Nancy Menage (2012), her father, Nick Menage (1967), and her mother Cesarina Crimo Menage (1977).
Ida was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and lived there until 1987, when she moved to Charlotte. She has lived at Dilworth Edge Condominium (formerly Versailles Condominium) for 32 years.
Ida loved to garden and was an avid reader until she lost her eyesight in 2003 because of macular degeneration. Ida was fiercely independent, and insisted on living independently even after her hip surgery in 2018. Ida has been very ill for the past year, and has been under Hospice care at her home since late December, 2018, where she has been faithfully attended by LaToya, her devoted Hospice nurse.
At Ida's request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. There will be a small service for the immediate family later this year when her grandson Nick is able to return to Charlotte from Tampa.
Prayers or masses for the peaceful repose of Ida's soul would be most appreciated. Memorial donations may be made to the two organizations that helped Ida most: Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 7845 Little Ave., Charlotte, NC 28226 or Metrolina Assistance for the Blind, Inc., 704 Louise Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28204.
The Olah Family has entrusted her care to Boston's Mortuary.
