Hazel Lee Smith, Jr., 55, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018. 

Hazel Lee Smith, Jr. was born on May 18, 1963, to the union of Hazel Lee Smith and Chessie Mae Campbell Smith in Hartsville, SC.  Hazel received his formal education at Garinger High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.  He furthered his education at Earle C. Clements in Morganfield, Kentucky.

For most of his career, Hazel was employed at Crowne Plaza as a Supervisor of Hospitality.

Hazel was a good, caring, and loving man who carried his faith in God and accepted Christ at an early age in life at Sherman Memorial Church. Hazel enjoyed playing the drums while his brother Albert played the guitar. Hazel was able to travel with his belated sister Evangelist Deloris Harmon, who was a Minister of Music. 

An ear for music is what Hazel had, a heart of joy to bring others together and celebrate is what Hazel loved to do. He really enjoyed music, dancing , gatherings and making people laugh. His greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends.  He also loved watching sports.  His favorite football team was the Philadelphia Eagles. 

Hazel’s lively smile, his cool and smooth gesture will truly be missed by family and friends.

Hazel Lee Smith, Jr. departed this life on September 7, 2018.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Latoya Howard; father, Hazel Lee Smith, Sr.; mother, Chessie Mae Campbell Smith; sisters, Marie Hollamon, Evangelist Deloris Harmon, and Rosetta Smith; and brother, James Perry, Jr.

Hazel is survived by his children, LaQueena Howard, Erica Howard, and Hovatio Howard; grandchildren, Zheneavia, Jalcaria, and Isaac; sisters and brothers, Steve and Ann Perry, Dorothy Outen, Mary Williams, Loretta and Edward Osborne, and Albert Smith; two aunts, Aunt Mabell Law and Aunt Nancy Harley; best friend, James Cousar; special friend, Barbara Galloway; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.    

A public viewing for Mr. Smith will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM, at Boston's Mortuary 4300 Statesville Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28269.   

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2018, at Boston's Mortuary.  The visitation will begin at 2:00 PM and the funeral service will begin at 2:30 PM.

The Smith Family have entrusted arrangements to Boston's Mortuary.
