Frances Byrd Jant

March 16, 1945 ~ June 2, 2019 (age 74)

MINT HILL, NORTH CAROLINA

Frances Byrd Jant, 74, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019.

Frances Byrd Jant was born on March 16, 1945, to the union of Isiah and Mabel B. Byrd in Clover, South Carolina.

Frances affectionately known as “Puddin” received her formal education in the York County Public School System in Clover, SC and later moved to Charlotte, NC where she graduated from York Road High School.

As an early adolescent, Frances accepted Christ as her Savior and was united with Silver Mt. Baptist Church.

Frances pursued her dream of becoming a bus driver and after being employed by Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) for two years, she was promoted to supervisor. Many who worked with Frances did not see her as just a supervisor, but as a mother figure, a mentor, and a friend.  This was a role Frances dedicated herself to for more than 25 years until her retirement.

Frances was a hard worker and she believed in helping and giving to others.  Her love, care and devotion to others was immeasurable.  She was a true Matriarch of her family.  Frances was blessed with 2 children and 3 grandchildren whom she loved dearly.  She made it a point to be present for those life events for her family, whether it be dance recitals for her granddaughters, football games for her grandson, or just making sure the family kept their license up-to-date and in good standing.

Frances was also an “avid” sports fan. She was a die-hard Carolina Tarheel and Carolina Panthers Fan.  Everyone knew not to disturb her when her games were on.  In addition to sports, Frances also enjoyed traveling and playing cars.  Her untimely demise has left a void in our hearts that can’t be filled. Frances will be missed, but never forgotten.

Frances Byrd Jant departed this life on June 2, 2019.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Jant; parents, Isiah and Mabel Byrd; sisters, Mary F. Barnette and Betty F. Goines.

She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Jacques D. Debeuneure, Sr. (Trista) and Deforrest B. Pratt, II (Bernetta); three grandchildren, Jacques Debeuneure, Jr., Juliahn D. Debeuneure, and Jamonica Pratt; sister, Anna M. Byrd; niece, Tara B. Fulniley; great-niece, Genesis Moses; one nephew, Gregory B. Barnette; one god-daughter, Stephanie Stinson; a lifelong best friend, Helen Smith; and other loving family and friends.
