CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA.
December 4, 1929 - October 22, 2019.
Eunice Brewer-Long, 89, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019.
The sun set, on a long beautiful God glorifying life, Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the Atrium Health University City Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina when Eunice Brewer Long went home to be with the Lord. Known to many as “Mama Long” and others ad “Noochie” she touched our hearts with her love and praise of our Savior Jesus Christ. The sunrise of this blessed Mother and servant of God occurred on December 4, 1929 in Lancaster, South Carolina when Eunice was born, the first of six children, to Rev. Alex Brewer and Mrs. Nannie Williams Brewer.
In search of a better life the Brewer family moved to Charlotte, NC while Eunice was a young child. Eunice received her education from the Charlotte public schools attending and graduating from Biddleville Elementary and West Charlotte High School. While rearing her children, Eunice attended Beckwith School of Cosmetology and became a North Carolina Board Certified Cosmetologist.
Eunice had a true entrepreneurial spirit. She was the proprietor of EBL Florist (Every Blessing is from the Lord) and later co-proprietor of Briarwood Florist on Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte. A skilled seamstress she also gave lessons on lingerie making at the shop. She was a fantastic cook and she loved to bake. Her delicious Christmas cookies, pound cakes and treats were the highlight of Christmas dinner for family members and friends. Always thrifty, one of her favorite hobbies was visiting Yard Sales and Flea Markets with her sister Lillie early on Saturday mornings. On many of those mornings you could also see young women tagging along to listen to her fun-filled stories about life, helping them in her own special way to understand what it meant to be a godly wife and mothers.
Eunice was baptized into the Christian faith at the New Hope Baptist Church at an early age. She later, joined the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. While in High School Eunice met a young man who would become the absolute love of her life, Rev. Sampson Long. However, Eunice was not a person who made impulsive decisions. So, it took some time for Sampson to convince her that he was the one. But he finally did and joyfully on December 25, 1949 they made their wedding vows before God, family and friends. They were married at the First Baptist Church, Kannapolis, NC where Eunice’s father served as pastor. Sampson and Eunice were married 56 years before his passing in July 2006. Together they welcomed four children into the world and into their loving home, Sheron Arna, Rondy Frankling, Gerald Jerome and Kevin Lamar.
Deeply committee to the Christian faith, Eunice worked tirelessly throughout her life in various capacities of service. She was an insightful and proficient Bible teacher, and working alongside her husband she served as First Lady of the New High Springs Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC; New Zion Baptist Church, in Henrietta, NC and Macedonia Baptist Church in Concord, NC. She also served as Deaconess at Macedonia. After her husband’s retirement from his pastoral duties they both joined Temple Church International under the leadership of their youngest son, Bishop Kevin Long. The members of Temple quickly adopted her as their “Mama Long” and she treated them like members of her family.
Eunice was a true blessing to all that knew her. She is predeceased by her husband, sisters Hattie and Lillie Mae and her brother Ray and John Lee; her memory and legacy are celebrated by four children: Sheron, Rondy, Gerald and Kevin and Brother Walter Brewer. In addition, eleven grandchildren, Pastor Rondy Long, Jr. (Regina), Crystal (Womdell), Nicole, Marcus, DeVaughn, Nicholas, Christina, Jared, Corey, Elijah, Jayden, Nia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
A service to Celebrate the Life of Ms. Brewer-Long will be held at 11:00 AM, on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at Mt Carmel Baptist Church, 7237 Tuckaseegee Rd, Charlotte, NC 28214. Interment will immediately follow at Beatties Ford Memorial Gardens.
