Dr. Tokunboh Rose

May 19, 1977 ~ June 7, 2019 (age 42)

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

May 19, 1977 ~ June 7, 2019

Dr. Tokunboh Rose, 42, passed away on June 7, 2019.

Born May 19, 1977, in Nashville, Tennessee, died June 7, 2019, in Charlotte, NC, age 42. Toks was defined by her intelligence, her focus, her commitment to hard work as a child and adolescent psychiatrist, as a mother of four-year-old, Oliver. Her stunning beauty, radiant smile, and quiet presence filled the room. She was a bit fastidious, sometimes stubborn in her beliefs and behavior but never from malice. She was modest, and not one to boast or embellish. A doctor, sister to Toria, 19 years her junior, an ever-devoted child of her parents whose company she never tired, and above all a mother. She loved the quiet of her beautiful home she shared with her son.

Born of a Nigerian mother, Toyin Rose, in Nashville, Tennessee while her mother was studying in university, Toks grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. Tim Rose was her father for the last 37 of her 42 years. She was joined by the birth of her sister, Toria in 1996. She loved her eclectic family, and when heads turned as they always would when they entered a room, it never, ever bothered Toks. She loved it.

She was educated at the best schools, Sidwell Friends School, Washington, DC ’95, Columbia University, BA ’99, the University of Virginia medical school’05, residency at Thomas Jefferson hospital, Philadelphia, ’09, and Fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry ’11 at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore. She joined CMC / Atrium health as an emergency room / telemedicine child and adolescent psychiatrist.

She was a Christian and born a Royal Princess of her mother’s people, the ten million strong Yoruba Egba people based in the western Nigerian city of Abeokuta. She was above all, an American. She was widely travelled, to Africa, Europe, the Middle East, in part personal and in part for her father’s international government contracting company for two years when she needed a break from medical school.

She is deeply missed and our grieving seems to know no bounds. But in time, we will know is journey is bright, lit by the ever-present light of the Almighty. Toks, you are missed.
