Shereene Hill Veal, 60, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.
This day honors a great woman whose existence has created a ripple effect that touches many. Shereene Stephanie Hill-Veal was born to the late James William Hill of Greenville, SC and the late Joan Frances Freeman Hill of Charlotte, North Carolina. She was the eldest sibling of 3, leading her brother, the late Sheridan Silvan Hill and baby sister Idanis Donyale Mills. Shereene grew up in Westbury, Long Island, New York and took pride in being a Westbury High School dragon as a part of the graduating class of 1975.
As the years passed she made her way to Charlotte and enrolled at University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1976. She became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Later, transferred to Johnson C. Smith University. She later returned and graduated from JCSU with her bachelor’s degree in 2012.
Life lead Shereene to foster a love for education and helping others. There is not one situation she did not meet with fire and grace. Reigniting a love for her high school sweetheart James Ellis Veal Sr. and they married in November of 1988. Over their 31 years of marriage, they have raised 3 children, Kristalyn James of Houston TX, James Veal Jr. and Jonathan Veal of Charlotte, NC and had a hand in raising 2 step-children Maurio Hanson of Charlotte, Danna Veal of Aiken, S.C., also they welcomed and nurtured 5 grandchildren James (Tre) Veal III, Taylor James, Camille James, Journey Mayes, and Jerome Mayes. Most recently
Mrs. Veal has been the registrar and campus "mom" at Thomasboro Academy in CMS as well as an active basketball mom, coach's wife, grandmother, mentor, and friend. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of honorary children, AKA sorors, Eastern Star sisters, Masonic brothers, and friends.
A public viewing for Mrs. Veal will take place on Monday, February 12, 2018, from 1:00PM - 6:00PM.
A funeral service will be held on 1:00PM, Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at Rockwell AME Zion Church, 6101 Rockwell Church Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28269. Family visitation will be held from 12:15PM - 1:00PM prior to service.
Interment will commence at 11:00AM, Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Salisbury National Cemetery, 202 Government Road, Salisbury, North Carolina 28144.
