Joy Lee Johnson was born January 25, 1940 in Hackensack, NJ to both the late Kelly Williams, Jr. and Marie Elizabeth Yancey Parker. She lived her early life in Hackensack, NJ with her mother and late step-father Robert Parker, however the better part of her life was spent in Patterson, NJ. On November 1, 2017, Joy peacefully transitioned from this life to the next with her Heavenly Father in Charlotte, NC.
Educated in New Jersey, Joy completed her formal education at Hackensack High School in Hackensack, NJ. After relocating to Charlotte, NC in 1989, she furthered her education at Central Piedmont Community College where she received a Personal Care Assistant certificate.
Always the hard worker and very industrious, Joy Lee Johnson served for years as a Personal Care Assistant and upon retiring operated an in-home daycare.
Writing poetry, crocheting, traveling, and doing puzzles were all hobbies that Joy love doing.
Joy Lee Johnson was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church where she accepted salvation and was baptized. She served faithfully as a youth Sunday school teacher until her health started deteriorating.
She was united in holy matrimony to Jonas Johnson, Jr. on July 19, 1969. Together they raised their only daughter Maria Tramaine Romero.
Joy, affectionately known as Mimi, was a warm, loving, giving person who adored her grandchildren.
Mimi leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband Jonas Johnson, Jr of 48 years; her truly devoted daughter, Maria Tramaine Romero; four grandchildren, Chimere Bryant (LJ Bryant), Lamar McLaughlin, Jovan McLaughlin, and Kyle Hunter; two great-grandchildren, Makiah Grindstaff and Drezon McLaughlin all of Charlotte, NC and a host of relatives and many friends.
A memorial service for Mrs. Johnson will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017, 2 PM, in the Chapel of Boston's Mortuary. Professional services have been entrusted to Boston's Mortuary.
